Where is your office?
My address is 25 Wentworth St., which is just off Portland St. in Downtown Dartmouth — a short walk from the ferry and bridge terminals, and just a few steps from TD Bank. Once inside, look for Suite 102 on the ground floor.
What is the parking situation?
It's street parking, and it's $1.50 for two hours. There are a few spots on Wentworth St., and there are more on Queen St.
Is there a waiting room?
We have a waiting room (with a washroom), so please feel free to come in a few minutes early and relax before we begin.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Choosing a Counselling Therapist can be a difficult decision, so I'd be glad to meet with you first. To schedule a free 15-minute consultation, please reach out by phone, email, text, or web form (here on the Contact page) and we'll find a time that works for both of us.
Services
Which therapies do you offer?
My favorite type of therapy is Internal Family Systems (IFS), which is a cutting-edge and evidence-based type of psychotherapy that focuses on working with sub-personalities to reduce inner conflict, heal trauma, and restore balance to the personality system. In addition to being proven effective at treating a wide range of psychological issues, it also offers a spiritual component, which can be very helpful for some people.
Here are all of the types of therapy that I offer:
What issues do you work with?
My specific areas of focus and interest include: parenting and family relationships, developmental trauma and attachment injuries, complex and/or chronic PTSD, Bipolar and Borderline personality disorders, existential anxiety/depression, grief/loss, culture shock and spiritual growth.
Here are the issues I can help you with:
Do you work with children?
I work with children as young as ten.
Scheduling
What is your cancellation policy?
I do ask that you give me at least 24-hours notice when cancelling or rescheduling an appointment — whether the reason is personal, professional, or weather-based — because that gives me enough time to schedule another client in that spot. Anything less, and I will have to bill you for the session.
How do I reschedule?
You can reschedule an appointment right in the Jane app, or you can email, call, text, or send me a message using the web form found on the Contact Page.
Payment
What are the payment options?
The easiest method is through the Jane app, which you'll have access to once you make an appointment — no need to download or install anything. Just click a link to open their website, navigate to payments, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Or you can pay in cash.
Who covers your services?
My services have been covered by Medavie Blue Cross, Manulife, Sun Life, Canada Life, and The Great-West Life Assurance Company. However, please check your individual policies to ensure that they cover the services of a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT).
Do you have direct billing?
Sorry, I do not have direct billing at the moment.
Do you charge more for couples?
Yes, I do charge an additional amount for sessions that include more than one client. For two people (couples, family, friends, etc.), my price is $175 (+tax). For other arrangements, they'll be priced on a case-by-case basis.
Confidentiality
How secure are virtual sessions?
We'll be connected through the Jane App Software, which is PIPEDA (Canada) and HIPAA (USA) compliant, which are federal laws that govern how private businesses collect and hold your private medical information. What that means is that your information is safe, and nobody else will have access to our conversations.
Still have a question?
You can reach me by email, phone, text, or web form, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can, usually within a day.
